Hi everyone,
Thanks for active attendance to TSE floorball. There has been about 10-12 players and we want to have challenging and pleasurable games so that we will also attract as many or more players in future.
We, the organizers (me, Ville L, Jan P and Kari L), consider that hits to the stick of other players need to reduce to keep these games constructively challenging and righteously pleasurable. We need to recognize the problem that making fouls encourages other people to make more fouls and we need to stop this becoming a vicious circle.
At the moment, we want to inform everyone about the rules of the game. Basically, there have been lots of fouls by hitting the stick from the front, back and over. We haven't seen much hitting the stick from under, i.e. raising the stick of another player, but that's against the rules as well. The fouls reduced when we changed from 4+1 players to 3+1 players, but there are still quite much fouls and these need to be reduced further.
Please check the rules in English (section 507 offences leading to a free-hit): https://salibandy.fi/uploads/2022/06/581133df-rules-of-the-game-2022-final_updated_18.05.2022.pdf
Or in Finnish (section 507): https://salibandy.fi/fi/info/saannot/pelisaannot/#39
We also, as organizers, need to take responsibility to reduce the fouls in the court. Although we are not professional referees, we will try to give special attention to repeating fouls, e.g. stop the game and give free-hits, penalty shots and instructions where we consider them appropriate.
On your behalf, we hope everyone tries to make less fouls than the average player does. This is mathematically impossible, but paradoxically, it might just lead to the solution of the problem by creative self-organizing.
I hope you understand our desire to play floorball with less offences. You are very welcome to come and play floorball and it doesn’t matter if there’s some fouls you remember doing yourself in the past couple of weeks. The important thing is how we want to play floorball in the coming weeks, months and years.
Best Regards,
Otto
